S20 -- The entry level Samsung 2020 S series Flagship Smartphone

Samsung has launched a trio of its 2020 S Series Flagship phones- S20, S20+, S20 ULTRA at its Unpacked Event 2020. This year Samsung has introduced many significant improvements as compared to its last year S10 series smartphones. This year Samsung flagships are snappier, more efficient and even somewhat good looking smartphones (although the S10's were just better at design in my opinion). Lets breakdown their specs.

                              Samsung Galaxy S20

This phone truly lives upto the idea that Good things come in small packages. It packs (almost) all the features of its Bigger sibling but in a handy and comfortable form factor. You can't say that it has a small screen as 6.2 inch is in no way small on paper. But hold the phone in your palm and you'll realise how comfy it is, all thanks to the curved edges and the stunning hole punch display which leads to a mind boggling 90% screen to body ratio with very minimal bezels all around. The hole punch is quite a bit smaller than last year. All this leads to a large 6.2 inch display smartphone feeling small in hands. The phone has a Aluminium and glass sandwich build with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 at both front and back and feels as premium as 1000$ in your pocket.

DISPLAY

The screen is a 6.2 inch Quad HD+ Super Amoled Oled panel and in typical Samsung fashion, is a delight to stare at. The colors are punchy and vibrant and equally sharp at 563ppi with a resolution of 3200×1440 pixels with a tall aspect ratio of 20:9. But the talk of the town is the 120 Hz refresh rate which makes the phone so smooth and appear faster than it actually is. It diminishes the stutters while scrolling and navigating through the phone. In a nutshell, there is no doubt in considering it the best smartphone display in the market right now.

Camera

S20 has a triple camera setup on its back laid out in a rectangular layout. The main sensor is 12 MP with f/1.8 aperture with OIS. Second in the list is a 64 MP telephoto camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 3x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and 30x digital zoom. Third is one of my favourite type of sensor i.e. the ultrawide with 12MP, f/2.2 aperture and 120 degrees field of view. The main camera is capable of shooting 4k at 60fps video whereas the telephoto is capable of shooting, hold your breath, 8k at 24 fps video recording. The camera also supports Samsung's renowned Super Steady Mode though it works only at 1080p. The selfie camera is a single 10 MP unit with f/2.2 aperture.
All these specs appear amazing on paper and will probably prove their worth in practice as well.

STORAGE and CPU

The phone runs on the Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990 7nm chipsets and  Adreno 650 or Mali-G77 MP11 GPU with 4G or 5G modems, each depending on your market. Both these SOCs are equally capable of handling whatever task you throw at them. The phone has 128 GB of base UFS 3.0 storage with 12 GB of ram. The storage can be expanded via a micro sd card upto 1TB with the help of a hybrid sim slot. The phone runs ONE UI 2 out of the box based on Android 10.
Connectivity options on the Samsung Galaxy S20 include Wi-Fi 802.11, GPS, Bluetooth v5.00, NFC, USB Type-C, Wi-Fi Direct, 3G, and 4G. Sensors on the phone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, compass/ magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and in-display fingerprint sensor. The Samsung Galaxy S20 also  supports face unlock though it is not a 3D sensor.

BATTERY

The phone has a 4000 mah lithium ion battery which is 600 mah larger than last year's S10. It also supports 25 W fast charging out of the box.

• Besides, the phone has stereo speakers with dolby atmos and IP68 dust and water resistant upto 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

• S20 has a starting price of 999$ and is available in 3 colours- Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue ,and Cloud Pink.

VERDICT

The Samsung Galaxy S20 is a perfect smartphone for those who want all the bells and whistles of a flagship smartphone but in a small and handy design. This makes it a very lucrative choice for many.

EXYNOS IS BACK with 2100 - Can it rival Snapdragon?

Video Courtesy: Samsung    Samsung has always resorted to using two different SOC's in their flagship mobile phones depending on the region they retail in. One of these comes from Qualcomm Snapdragon series, which is primarily used in the US market and the other from Samsung's own in-house Exynos , which is used in most parts of the world.  There were times when Exynos chips were considered more powerful than their Snapdragon counterparts, however, the tables eventually started to turn when last year's Exynos 990 was easily dominated by the Snapdragon 865 in almost ...

iPhone SE (2020) - Evokes Nostalgia?

Ever  heard of the phrase- " Don't Judge a book by its Cover " ? Looks like the Engineers at Apple Inc. surely have! The Original  iPhone SE , released back in 2016, reflected the same ideal and so does the Freshly launched -  iPhone SE (2020) . Hold your Breath ...its an iPhone 8 with iPhone 11 internals, just like a younger brother wearing his 4 years elder brother's clothes. Yeah!
